Calling fellow photographers and minneapolis folk with connections/life experience! :)

So I haven't been great at "daily entries".
I'm in a confusing stressful whirlwind of decision making and option weighing. The Minneapolis high I had for the entire month of June has started to wear off. My plans to live at the co-op seem to be falling through. And I've been unable to sleep from thoughts of MN winter depression, joblessness, and what I'm trying to pursue with photography. I've been avoiding the ultimate "plan-making" that us recent college graduates are supposed to do because I had planned on going to New Zealand this upcoming year to adventure and roam before coming back to the "real world". But maybe I have a lot to offer, but no idea how (and to whom) to offer it. I went to a topnotch liberal arts school where I also single-handedly pulled together a few photo projects my senior year, including a trip to French Polynesia to photograph local women vs. women in the tourist scene (my thesis). I do scenic and artistic stuff as well, but I feel as though my nitch is in travel photojournalism. But how do I go about that in an economy like this? I'm clueless. If I decide to stay in the cities, is there a job out there for me that could be a stepping stone to the next step? Does it require grad school? It's all so much too much. Maybe I'll go to New Zealand after all. ;)

ps. anyone interested in getting together for some more shooting next week?

Perfect weekend

Relaxation, sun, tubing, waterskiing, boating, friends, warm light, bright colors, music, energy. All with Minnesotan lake country flair. There really is nothing better! I didn't want to put my camera down this weekend. This past week I also made the decision to live in an artist co-op in St.Paul for the next year, developing my portfolio while learning more and making connections with people around here. I hope to eventually travel and live in New Zealand next fall (which was the plan for this fall), but just knowing that I get to be here in the Twin Cities for the next year is exhilarating and made me really appreciate a weekend like this so much more. Woo!
Now it's time to get cracking and get out there.. again!
Werner said he was going up to Split Rock lighthouse this week, and I was thinking that's definitely something I want to do at some point this summer too. I hear it's beautiful up there. I also want to get back to St.Anthony Main at night sometime soon. And Raspberry Island... the list is endless! Keep me in the loop :)

I'm brand new to blogging! Up until now, I've been keeping most of my photos at http://picasaweb.google.com/alirogers08 but after shooting around St.Anthony Main area yesterday with Mitchster and other Minneapolis photographers, I was inspired to create one of these of my own. I'm an amateur photographer who has done a lot of traveling and photographing, but has very verrrry much to learn. Yesterday was great, hope to do more of that again soon... you are all such talented photographers with STUNNING photos.
